Making Room for Something Beautiful

The Beginning of Aster + Ash

I’m not entirely sure how to introduce myself. Writing about soap is easy. Writing about myself? That’s another story.

I’m Suzie. I’m a mother, an artist, a maker, and a woman who has spent a good portion of her life taking care of the things and people who need her.

Like so many women, I’ve learned how to juggle responsibilities, solve problems, adapt when things don’t go according to plan, and keep moving even when I’m exhausted.

Some days I do that gracefully. Other days, not so much.

Somewhere in the middle of all that life, I started making soap.

What began as a creative pursuit became something much more meaningful. I found myself drawn to the colors of the natural world, the character of botanical ingredients, the way a fragrance could evoke a memory or a place, and the endless possibilities of making something beautiful with my own hands.

I fell in love with the process. The experimentation. The surprises. Even the failures, although I can’t promise I appreciate those quite as much in the moment.

Aster + Ash grew out of that love.

But it also grew out of something deeper: a desire to build something of my own. Something that reflects what I value, gives my creativity a place to live, and perhaps one day becomes something my children can carry forward.

I care deeply about the natural world and the living things we share it with. I believe in thoughtfulness, compassion, curiosity, and the quiet beauty of things made with intention.

I also believe that dreams don’t have an expiration date.

You can be a mother with a full plate, a woman with responsibilities, a person who has experienced setbacks, and still want something more for yourself. You can love the life you’ve built and still want to build something new.

I don’t have all the answers. I’m figuring things out as I go, usually with several projects underway and a little more chaos than I’d prefer.

But I’m making room for something beautiful.
